Control4 done by people who actually program the system
Control4 is the integrator-class smart-home platform of choice for serious Canberra homes — one app, one remote, every subsystem on the page. Lights, blinds, climate, AV, security, intercom, irrigation. But Control4 lives or dies on the programmer. A badly configured Control4 system is worse than no smart home at all. We design, install and program the whole stack ourselves — no white-labelled subcontractor, no "we use a guy in Sydney".
Most of the Control4 systems we deliver in Canberra are in larger Inner South, Forrest, Deakin, Red Hill, Yarralumla and acreage properties through Sutton, Murrumbateman and Bungendore. The typical brief is a house renovation or new build where the owner wants every subsystem on a single Control4 driver: lighting (usually KNX or Centralite), heating and cooling (Daikin VRV), audio (Sonos zones or distributed amp), video (4K HDMI matrix), CCTV (Unifi or Hikvision), entry (Yale Assure smart locks or video doorbell), and blinds (Hunter Douglas or Lutron). All visible from a wall touchscreen or the phone app.
What a proper Control4 install actually involves
A clean Control4 install starts at the system design stage — before any cable is run. We work backwards from how you want to use the house: morning scene, movie scene, away-from-home scene, evening scene. Then we spec the hardware (Control4 EA-5 or CA-10 controller, touchscreens, keypads, drivers), the structured cabling (every subsystem on its own VLAN), the AV rack and the programming logic. Programming happens off-site, then we commission on-site and tune scenes with you over 1–2 follow-up visits. We don't leave you with a half-programmed system and a manual to read.
Common Control4 jobs across Canberra
- Full new-build Control4 system across 8–20 lighting zones, HVAC, AV, CCTV and security with three to six wall touchscreens
- Renovation upgrade — adding Control4 to an existing home with KNX or C-Bus lighting already in place
- Cinema and media room integration — single 'Movie Time' scene that dims lights, drops blinds, powers the AVR, switches input and starts the projector
- Multi-zone Sonos and distributed audio integration so every room shows up on the Control4 app as a music source
- Hikvision or Unifi CCTV live-view tile on the wall touchscreens in the kitchen and entry hall
- Yale Assure smart-lock and video-doorbell integration so entry events trigger Control4 scenes and notifications
- Replatform — migrating an old C-Bus or Crestron house to Control4 with new drivers and a clean programming rebuild
How a Canberra Control4 install runs end-to-end
- Discovery and design. We walk the home (or read the plans for a new build), understand how every room is used, and design the scene logic before quoting any hardware.
- Fixed-price system design quote. Every driver, controller, touchscreen, keypad, cable run and programming hour listed line-by-line. Subject to site survey conditions.
- Rough-in and cabling. Structured Cat6 and HDMI cabling to every endpoint, dedicated VLAN for control traffic, neat termination in a ventilated AV rack.
- Programming. Done off-site to keep the on-site time tight. Every scene logic, every driver, every conditional rule written and dry-tested.
- Commissioning and training. On-site testing of every scene, family walk-through, written cheat-sheet for each user, and a 30-day tune-up visit included.
Control4 EA-5 or CA-10 as the controller, Halo Touch or T4 wall touchscreens, Configurable Keypads (CKP) and SR-260 remotes. We integrate KNX or Centralite for lighting, Daikin VRV / Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for climate, Sonos / Yamaha / Storm for audio, Hikvision or Unifi Protect for CCTV, Yale Assure for entry, and Hunter Douglas PowerView or Lutron for blinds. Every install is built on a Unifi network backbone with dedicated VLANs for control, AV, IoT and guest traffic — Control4 doesn't share a broadcast domain with the kids' Xboxes.

Frequently asked — Canberra Control4 installs
How much does a Control4 system cost in Canberra?
Entry-level whole-home Control4 (lighting + AV + climate, one touchscreen) typically starts around $25,000–$40,000 fitted. Mid-tier homes with 8–15 lighting zones, multi-room audio and CCTV integration land $60,000–$120,000. Large premium homes with full automation can run $200,000+. Every system is fixed-price after a site survey.
Do I need to be home for the programming?
No — programming is done off-site once the rough-in is complete. We commission on-site over a single day and then run two follow-up tune-up visits where you tell us what to adjust. That's part of the fixed price.
Can Control4 control my existing Sonos / Hikvision / Daikin?
Yes. Control4 has certified drivers for Sonos (every zone shows up as a music source), Hikvision NVRs (live-view tiles on touchscreens), and Daikin VRV/SkyAir (set-points and scene control). We confirm driver availability for any specific model during the design stage.
What happens if the Control4 controller fails?
Every system is designed so the underlying subsystems still work standalone — lights still work on the keypads, AV still works on remotes, climate still works on the wall thermostat. The Control4 layer adds convenience; it's not a single point of failure. We hold replacement controllers in stock and turnaround is usually 24–48 hours.
Are you a certified Control4 dealer?
Yes — we hold the Control4 dealer authorisation required to sell, install and program Control4 hardware in Australia. Programming credentials are held in-house, not subcontracted out.
Will Control4 work with KNX or C-Bus I already have?
Yes. Control4 has mature drivers for KNX (every device shows up natively) and C-Bus (via gateway). We've done several replatform jobs in Canberra where the original C-Bus install stayed in place and Control4 added scene logic and remote control on top.
